A $4.5 million project to widen the busy channel near Peanut Island, close to the north end of Palm Beach, starts as early as July 10, 2025. Years of sand buildup have made the area tricky for boaters, but this long-awaited dredge will improve safety without harming the nearby Blue Heron Bridge — one of the best shore dive spots in the country.
Crews will carefully remove about 70,000 cubic yards of sand, some of which will help restore seagrass elsewhere. Expect some waterway restrictions, with work lasting around six weeks.
