Norton Plans New Cultural Art Park on the Waterfront

The Norton Museum of Art is looking to expand its footprint — not with more galleries, but with greenery. The museum has proposed transforming Pioneer Memorial Park, the grassy strip between Norton and the Intracoastal, into a public cultural art park designed by world-renowned architect Norman Foster.

The proposed plan features shady tree-lined walkways, wide open lawns, and a “significant” signature art piece fronting the water. Think a place to stroll, relax, and enjoy large-scale sculptures just steps from Flagler Drive.

City commissioners have already taken the first step, voting to declare the land “surplus” so negotiations on a long-term lease with Norton can move forward. To note, Related Ross would also be involved in the negotiations, as the South Flagler House abuts the property and Related Ross will work with the Norton for art activations.

For now, it’s still in the works — but if the deal goes through, the City of West Palm Beach will activate a public park with “lush landscape” and artwork.
