Downtown West Palm Beach just got a futuristic upgrade—think less traffic jam, more Jetsons.
On April 16, 2025, a brand-new self-driving electric minibus hit the streets, giving free rides between the Brightline station and the CityPlace parking garage. The eight-seat shuttle, designed by Estonian company Auve Tech and operated by Boca-based Guident, glides along at about 5 mph—slow, steady, and safe.
No steering wheel here! The bus is fully autonomous, using cameras, sensors, and smart software to detect people and cars in its path. There’s still a trained human onboard (for now), ready to jump in with a video game controller if needed—yes, literally an Xbox controller. Thanks to Guident’s remote monitoring system, trained operators—who could be in Boca, Colombia, or even Asia—can step in if the software needs a hand. With live cameras, two-way audio, and multiple safety backups, the ride stays smooth and secure.
It’s a peek into how driverless transportation could be in the future. So, next time you’re downtown, hop on and let the future do the driving.
