So You Wanna Be a Python Hunter? Welcome to the Wildest Competition in Florida!

If you’ve ever said, “Florida’s wild,” buckle up — it’s about to get wilder.

Each summer, right here in our sunny backyard, hundreds of folks from all over Florida (and even beyond) grab their boots, flashlights, and nerves of steel to take part in the Florida Python Challenge™ — a 10-day competition where people hunt down Burmese pythons in the Everglades.

Why Are We Hunting Pythons in the First Place?

You’ve probably heard about those giant snakes slithering around the Everglades. Burmese pythons — not native to Florida — have become the invasive species of nightmares. Think 18-foot-long spaghetti noodles with teeth. They eat everything: birds, mammals, even gators. And they’re not on the guest list.

The Python Challenge isn’t just a weird Florida thing — it’s a real conservation effort. The snakes are wrecking our Everglades ecosystem, and this is our way of fighting back.

Bonus: you might win a cash prize (up to $10,000!) while you’re at it.

Who Can Compete?

Anyone 18+! You don’t need to be a pro, just:

  • Take a short online training
  • Pay a $25 entry fee
  • Follow the rules (no explosives, no eating snakes — seriously)

When & Where?

🗓 July 11–20, 2025
📍 Various spots in South Florida, including Big Cypress, Everglades National Park, and Holey Land.
