A futuristic way to travel between Palm Beach International Airport and Downtown West Palm Beach could be on the horizon.
California-based transit company Glydways has proposed an on-demand autonomous transit system that would use self-driving vehicles traveling on a dedicated elevated guideway instead of traditional trains or buses.
The proposed route would connect Palm Beach International Airport, the Palm Beach Convention Center, CityPlace, Brightline, the Courthouse, NORA, and the Historic Northwest neighborhood, making it easier to travel between some of the area’s busiest destinations.
Instead of stopping at every station, each vehicle would take riders directly to their selected destination, offering a faster and more personalized trip.
County commissioners are expected to discuss the concept on July 7, 2026. If the project moves forward, it could be up and running within five years.
As West Palm Beach continues to grow, the proposal reflects the city’s search for smarter transportation solutions that can help keep pace with increasing demand.
