Hurricane season officially begins June 1, and while forecasters are predicting a quieter year than usual, experts say preparation is still critical.
NOAA’s 2026 outlook calls for a below-normal Atlantic hurricane season, with:
- 8 to 14 named storms
- 3 to 6 hurricanes
- 1 to 3 major hurricanes
Forecasters say developing El Niño conditions could help limit storm activity this year, though officials stress that it only takes one storm to make it a serious season.
For South Florida and Palm Beach County residents, now is the time to review hurricane plans, restock supplies, and prepare before storms begin forming.
The 2026 Atlantic storm names are: Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Leah, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, and Wilfred.
Hurricane season runs through November 30, with peak activity typically arriving later in the summer and early fall.
