Big changes are on the way for the Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach.
The Cox Science Center and Aquarium is set to nearly triple in size, expanding to more than 100,000 square feet as part of a major project expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
One of the biggest highlights is a dramatically expanded aquarium experience. Plans call for 160,000 gallons of exhibits—up from just 10,000 gallons today—making it one of the largest indoor aquariums in Florida.
The expansion will also include new STEM labs, classrooms, a digital arts studio, and a new Hall of Science designed to become a visible landmark along I-95. Outdoor spaces will grow as well, creating more room for interactive learning and community events.
Leaders say the project is about more than just adding space. The long-term vision is to transform the Cox Science Center into a premier science and education destination for South Florida.
Once complete, attendance could approach 1 million visitors annually, marking a major step forward for both tourism and science education in Palm Beach County.
