Tri-Rail just hit a major milestone: over 4.5 million rides in the 2024–25 fiscal year — the most in its history! The South Florida commuter rail is officially back to (and beyond) its pre-pandemic numbers, with weekday ridership averaging 15,000 and weekends around 7,000. To fuel the boost, Tri-Rail rolled out new perks, like an express train into downtown Miami. Plus, a bump in travel saw the airport stations (like MIA and FLL) as among the busiest stops.
Tri-Rail is now 4th in the nation when it comes to ridership recovery among U.S. commuter rail systems. Not too shabby!
But it’s not all smooth tracks — the agency is facing future funding gaps. While operations are covered through mid-2027, long-term support is still in the works. They’re currently in talks with state and local leaders to secure a sustainable game plan.
So: record riders, expanded routes, and a big future ahead — as long as the funding stays on board. 🚆
