Traffic relief could come with a hefty price tag for West Palm Beach and Palm Beach drivers.
A new Palm Beach County transportation study identifies some of the area’s most congested roads and outlines potential improvements as part of a long-term plan that could cost approximately $8 billion.
Where Is Traffic the Worst?
Northlake Boulevard ranked as the county’s most congested corridor, followed by Southern Boulevard and Old Dixie Highway. Okeechobee Boulevard, Military Trail and PGA Boulevard also made the list.
For Palm Beach and West Palm Beach residents, Southern Boulevard and Okeechobee Boulevard are particularly important routes connecting the island with the mainland.
What’s Being Proposed?
Potential improvements include smarter traffic signals, intersection upgrades, flexible lanes that adjust to rush-hour traffic and expanded public transportation options.
The study estimates nearly $2 billion for roadway improvements, plus approximately $6 billion for broader transportation and technology upgrades.
When Will Improvements Begin?
Not anytime soon. County commissioners reviewed the master plan but have not approved specific projects or funding. For now, the study provides a roadmap for addressing growing traffic congestion across Palm Beach County.
