A true West Palm Beach icon has returned. The historic Sunset Lounge in the Northwest District is officially reopened, welcoming a new era of live music, culture, and community to a venue that once hosted legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Count Basie.
A Legacy Reborn
During the 1940s and ’50s, the Sunset Lounge was a vital cultural hub for African American artists and audiences at a time when segregation limited access to mainstream venues. More than a nightclub, it was a gathering place rooted in creativity and connection.
Today, that legacy continues. After an extensive restoration led by the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the Sunset Lounge has been transformed into a 20,000-square-foot cultural destination featuring a restaurant, bar, rooftop lounge, and modern performance space — all while honoring its historic character.
Live Music Returns With Soul in the City
The venue’s revival is being celebrated through Soul in the City, now officially based at the Sunset Lounge.
