A major transformation is underway in West Palm Beach.
The historic Roosevelt High School in Coleman Park is being redeveloped into the African American Museum & Research Library (AAMRL), which will serve as a new cultural and educational hub for the community.
The project will span 37,000 square feet, including 17,000 square feet of restored historic space and 20,000 square feet of new construction. Once complete, the space will feature museum-quality galleries for exhibits and preservation, along with modern digital archives and research tools. The design also includes flexible community spaces for events, workshops, and programming, an outdoor cafe, and dedicated educational resources that give students, educators, and researchers access to African American history and historical records.
Led by Palm Beach County, the School District, and the Community Foundation, the project aims to honor the site’s past while creating a space for learning, connection, and culture. Once an all-Black school during segregation, Roosevelt High School was a cornerstone of the community. After sitting vacant for years, it’s now being brought back to life as a place to preserve history and inspire future generations.
Project leaders hope to open doors to the public by December 2028.
