Hibiscus House Makeover Could Bring Swanky New Restaurant to Downtown West Palm Beach

Hibiscus House

The historic Hibiscus House in downtown West Palm Beach is poised for a major revival. Developer Related Ross, led by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, plans to transform the 107-year-old Grant Van Valkenburg House into a stylish 250-seat restaurant, complete with two bars, private dining, an outdoor patio, and a retail shop. The team behind Miami’s Michelin-recognized Mandolin Aegean Bistro is set to run the show

The Craftsman-style bungalow, located just steps from CityPlace, is one of the last of its kind in town — and restoring it won’t come cheap. The project’s $13 million price tag reflects the extensive work needed to bring the aging landmark back to life.

Ross is asking the city for $1.3 million to help cover costs, a request that has sparked debate. Supporters say the project will boost downtown’s dining scene and better connect Clematis Street to CityPlace. The city delayed a vote on the funding request until August.

If approved, the project could bring new energy — and new foot traffic — to this key corner of downtown.
