Downtown West Palm Beach might soon be getting the full-size Publix locals have been waiting for.
The West Palm Beach City Commission has approved moving forward with a deal that could bring a new, larger Publix to the corner of Banyan Boulevard and North Sapodilla Avenue, just north of the police headquarters and a few blocks from the federal courthouse. The city voted to declare three vacant, city-owned lots (about 1.7 acres) as surplus so staff can negotiate with Publix to redevelop the block into a full-service grocery store. Surrounding landowner Related Ross also supports this move, as Related Ross has been pushing for a bigger Publix for years.
Right now, downtown’s only Publix — in CityPlace — is less than half the size of a standard Publix. As more residents and office workers move into the urban core, that little store has been stretched thin.
Publix hasn’t submitted formal plans yet, but talks are expected to continue into 2026. If it moves forward, downtown West Palm Beach could finally get the modern, full-scale grocery store its booming demographics demand.
