Billionaire Seeks to Close Public Street for Private Compound in West Palm Beach

Billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones, a Palm Beach resident, is looking to buy part of Essex Court in West Palm Beach to create a private gated compound for two homes he’s building on the waterfront. The request includes a payment of $220,000 to the city, and has been approved by city planners but still needs approval from the City Commission on May 12, 2025.

While Jones argues the change won’t impact the neighborhood, residents on nearby Essex Lane are concerned about parking and access for service trucks.

Combining properties for private estates has been common in Palm Beach, but this move in West Palm Beach reflects the area’s growing appeal among wealthy buyers, especially after the pandemic. It’s a sign of the increasing trend of exclusive, private compounds in the area.
