Flying Cars in West Palm Beach? CityPlace Moves Forward With Air Taxi Proposal

Flying taxis could eventually become part of downtown West Palm Beach’s transportation network.

The West Palm Beach Planning Board unanimously endorsed a zoning change on September 15, 2026, that would allow Related Ross to pursue an electric air taxi landing pad on top of CityPlace’s Hibiscus Garage. The proposed landing pad would serve electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, known as eVTOLs, designed to transport passengers on short flights between destinations.

What’s Planned at CityPlace?

The proposal calls for an additional level on the Hibiscus Garage, along with charging equipment, fire safety features and a passenger waiting lounge. Unlike traditional helicopters, the landing pad would be restricted to electric aircraft. Related Ross envisions an on-demand pickup and drop-off location rather than a full airport.

The concept comes as companies including Archer Aviation explore future air taxi routes connecting West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

When Could Air Taxis Arrive?

Not anytime soon. The technology is still developing, and Related Ross acknowledges commercial service could be years away. The project also requires Federal Aviation Administration approval and additional city approvals before construction could move forward.

Some residents have raised concerns about noise, safety and whether the city should prioritize existing traffic and infrastructure needs.

For now, the Planning Board’s endorsement is an early step toward a potential new transportation option in downtown West Palm Beach, not approval to begin operating air taxis.
