Palm Beach Dramaworks is kicking off its 2026–2027 season with a world premiere right in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach.
ALBA, a new play by Cuban American playwright Alejandro Rodriguez, runs October 9–25, 2026, at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre on Clematis Street.
Inspired by Federico García Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba, the production brings a classic family drama into working-class Miami in 2001, mixing family secrets, generational tensions and plenty of humor.
A Cuban Family, Big Personalities and Plenty of Drama
At the center of ALBA is a strong-willed Cuban matriarch determined to keep her household together as everything around her threatens to unravel.
Between mounting debts, changing technology, a suspicious suitor and complicated family relationships, the story explores what happens when a family tries to hold on to the past.
Despite its serious themes, the production delivers plenty of laughs along the way.
Directed by KJ Sanchez and starring Maggie Bofill in the title role, ALBA draws inspiration from Rodriguez’s own family history.
The play was previously presented as a reading during Palm Beach Dramaworks’ 2025 Perlberg Festival of New Plays before returning for its full world premiere.
