The City of West Palm Beach is making moves when it comes to saving energy — and the U.S. Department of Energy is taking notice. The city just hit its second major milestone in the DOE’s Better Buildings Challenge, cutting energy use by 16% across city buildings and infrastructure.
This isn’t their first rodeo. Back in 2014, they hit a 20% reduction thanks to upgrades like LED streetlights. This time, improvements to the wastewater treatment facility helped push them past their goal ahead of schedule — saving energy, reducing the city’s carbon footprint, and cutting costs along the way.
West Palm Beach was the first Florida partner to join this national challenge, and they’re still leading the way. Next up? Aiming for a 25% energy reduction by 2030.
