Palm Beach County to Buy La Quinta Hotel for Affordable Housing

Palm Beach County commissioners have approved the $16.7 million purchase of the La Quinta Inn on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach, set to be converted into 114 efficiency units for low-income seniors and veterans. The decision passed with a 5-2 vote, despite concerns from nearby Century Village residents about safety and property values.

County officials assured residents that tenants would undergo background checks and that enhanced security would be in place. They also promised regular meetings with the community to address any concerns.

The first tenants are expected to move in within six months. While Palm Beach County will cover a $2 million franchise fee, commissioners believe the need for affordable housing for vulnerable populations outweighs the costs. This project aims to provide stable housing for seniors and veterans, preventing homelessness in the area.
